'The Beast Within' Story Code '68122' by John D'Aquino

6th November 1972: Sam leaps into the body of Henry Adams, a Vietnam veteran living rough in the mountains of Washington with his friend, Roy Brown. While attempting to steal medicine for Roy from the house of local Sherriff Luke Marlett, Henry is mistaken for Bigfoot by the man’s excitable stepson, Daniel Burke, and forced to flee. Sam learns that Roy experiences seizures as a result of a head wound received during the war, when he and Henry served with their high-school buddies Luke Marlett and John Burke, Daniel’s father. During one ill-fated mission, Luke’s refusal to comply with orders to kill civilians caused John to die in an explosion; blaming himself for his friend’s death, Luke later married John’s widow, Karen, in an attempt to assuage his guilt. Learning from Al that Roy is destined to die from another seizure, Sam resolves to take him into town, only to hear that the local doctor died two days ago, and that Henry is wanted by the police for theft; with no-one to turn to, Sam decides to use woodland plants to concoct the medicine needed to keep Roy alive…
